National Magicians Day – An Evening of Magic at Frank’s

October 30 @ 6:30 pm9:00 pm
National Magician's Day

Friday, October 30, 2026 | 6:30–9:00ish PM

Join Frank Collins and fellow members of the Fresno magic community for a special evening of magic, conversation, food, and fellowship in celebration of National Magicians Day and the 100th anniversary of Harry Houdini’s death.

Whether you’re a magician or simply someone who enjoys watching magic, you’re invited!

An Evening of Magic

Bring some magic to share! The evening will be an informal opportunity to perform, experiment, and spend time with other people who enjoy the art.

Close-up and parlor magic are both welcome, and you’re welcome to come in costume—or simply come as yourself.

And importantly, non-magicians are welcome too. After all, magicians need spectators!

Frank has also mentioned that he and others may have magic available to sell or trade, so feel free to bring along anything you might be interested in trading with another magician.

Food & Drinks

Frank will provide tea, coffee, and punch.

Guests are encouraged to bring snacks, hors d’oeuvres, or another food or drink to share. Adult beverages are welcome, but please remember that this will be a family-friendly gathering.

Celebrating Houdini & Our Beginnings in Magic

There’s a personal reason National Magicians Day means something special to Frank.

Back in 1972, when he was 12 years old, Frank read a book about Harry Houdini for a sixth-grade biography report. His teacher gave him the book because it was seldom read—and that simple gesture changed the direction of his life.

The magic bug bit.

More than five decades later, Frank has collected many books about Houdini, but he still treasures that inexpensive fictionalized Houdini book that started it all.

It’s a great reminder that every magician has a beginning—a book, trick, performance, person, or seemingly insignificant moment that started a lifelong fascination with magic.

Frank invites everyone attending to come ready to share your own beginning in magic.

There’s another fun connection: Frank’s daughter Erica was named after Houdini, and even Houdini’s claimed birthdates have connections to Frank’s family—March 24 shares his wife’s birthday, while April 6 shares one of his daughters’ birthdays.
