SYNOPSIS:
M.I.N.T.—an acronym for Marlo in New TOPS—is a two-volume collection of Edward Marlo’s contributions to The New TOPS magazine, gathering material published from 1963 through 1979. The series preserves nearly two decades of Marlo’s intensely creative work with playing cards, reorganized and newly illustrated for easier study. Volume 1 contains 53 contributions from 1963–1968, while Volume 2 continues from 1968–1979 with more than 400 pages of additional techniques and routines.
The books combine complete effects with sleights, controls, switches, palms, false deals, packet techniques, Faro applications, Ace routines, sandwiches, visual changes, thought-of-card effects, and numerous refinements of established card plots. Among the better-known material are Clipped Thought, Remember and Forget, The Incomplete Faro, The Homing Card, The Prayer Cull, Think Touch Turn, Radical Departure, Diamond Cut Diamond, and Marlo’s work on the Slip Count Principle and Wrist Turn Passes.
Rather than functioning as a progressive course, the series serves as a technical reference and historical record of Marlo’s ongoing experimentation. Many entries begin with a specific problem or familiar card plot and then explore alternate methods, handling refinements, and new applications. The library’s performance guide likewise characterizes both volumes as extensive technical compilations whose material ranges across general card routines and utility ideas.
