SYNOPSIS:
Revelation is Dai Vernon’s detailed companion to S. W. Erdnase’s The Expert at the Card Table. Vernon worked through the Erdnase text page by page, adding explanations, corrections, refinements, alternate handlings, and observations drawn from his lifelong study of card technique. The book examines false shuffles and cuts, shifts, palms, bottom and second deals, changes, substitutions, deck controls, advantage-play methods, and the card tricks described in the original Erdnase volume.
The 2008 edition presents the complete text of The Expert at the Card Table with Vernon’s annotations placed beside the relevant passages. It also reproduces Vernon’s original typed manuscript and incorporates more than 160 photographs of Vernon’s hands taken in 1961 specifically to illustrate the project. These photographs clarify many positions and actions that were difficult to understand from text alone.
More than 100 pages of supplementary material expand the book beyond the earlier edition. This includes Vernon’s work on Topping the Deck, Walter Scott’s Second Deal and Double Belly Cut, the Ping Pong Shift, the Hop, Allen Kennedy’s legendary Center Deal, and other specialized card-table techniques.
The book originally appeared in 1984 under the plural title Revelations. The substantially expanded 2008 edition restored Vernon’s intended singular title, Revelation.
