Rune’s World

SYNOPSIS:

Rune’s World: The Magic of Rune Klan is Joshua Jay’s presentation of the close-up and comedy magic of Danish performer Rune Klan. The book is intentionally unconventional: part instructional manual, part examination of Rune’s creative philosophy, and part graphic novel. Its unifying idea is that Rune develops each routine around the desired audience experience, allowing the effect—not convention or technical purity—to determine the method.

The first half concentrates heavily on sophisticated coin magic. It includes vanishes, productions, transpositions, coins-through-table and coins-across routines, coin-and-bottle material, sleeving, purse work, and the complete Three Pieces of Silver sequence. Notable entries include PensiveImpromptu HitmanCoin and BottleTwo, One and HangingCoins Across CardsMatrioThree Coins and a PurseMirage Coins, and Born a Freak

The second half shifts to Rune’s professional comedy and stand-up repertoire and is presented largely in graphic-novel form. It includes bizarre visual gags and routines involving a torn-and-restored magazine, a sock, cellphone, pizza, rope, beard drawings, a toy or prop head, dog collar, envelopes, oversized cups and balls, and other unusual objects. This section documents not only the secrets but the construction, pacing, and comic attitude behind Rune’s stage persona.

The book also includes companion video material featuring subtitled performances, interviews, and additional explanations or effects not taught in the printed volume. Because some comedy material contains explicit adult themes, the publisher recommends it for readers eighteen and older.
