Second Wind: A Book of Old Magic Made New is Asi Wind’s compact collection of seven card routines built around a clever premise: return to the simple, often sleight-free tricks found in beginner magic books and rebuild them using the stronger methods, subtleties, psychology, and technical tools of an experienced magician.

Wind deliberately gives the book the look and feel of an old-fashioned beginner text, but the material is aimed at magicians who already know more sophisticated card techniques. Familiar principles such as key cards, mathematical procedures, stacked sequences, and simple forces are layered with culls, Faros, palms, classic forces, and other refinements to make the original plots far more deceptive.

The larger lesson of the book is creative rather than merely technical: simple tricks do not necessarily need to be abandoned as a magician becomes more experienced—they can often be reconstructed into much stronger magic.Vanishing Inc. describes the collection as a study in layering methods and principles to make familiar effects much harder to reverse-engineer.
