SYNOPSIS:
Marlo’s Magazine is a six-volume record of Edward Marlo’s intensive exploration of card magic during the 1970s and 1980s. Although Marlo called the individual publications “magazines,” each is a substantial book containing hundreds of techniques, variations, routines, subtleties, discussions, and solutions to card problems. Across more than 2,000 pages, Marlo examines subjects such as controls, switches, palms, false deals, counts, changes, forces, packet techniques, card-to-pocket, Ace assemblies, Oil and Water, Triumph, gambling demonstrations, transpositions, locations, and thought-of-card effects.
The series is especially valuable for showing Marlo’s investigative approach. Rather than presenting only one finished handling, he frequently studies a plot or technique from several directions, documenting alternative methods and small refinements that can change the deceptiveness or practicality of an effect. The contents include complete routines alongside highly specialized sleights and technical essays. The catalogue’s table of contents reflects that depth, with extended sections devoted to subjects such as Triumph, card locations, packet switches, palm additions, poker routines, transpositions, and multiple approaches to the same effect.
Taken together, the six books form an advanced reference library for serious students of card magic rather than a progressive introductory course. They preserve many of Marlo’s most influential ideas, including the Snap Change, Olram’s Jinx Switch, Unit Upjog Control, Convincing Control, and extensive work on the Punch Deal and other foundational techniques.
